ABOUT JIM

James E. Reid

Jim began his legal career as a Judge Advocate in the United States Marine Corps where he was assigned as a Trial Counsel (Prosecutor) for the Second Marine Division at Camp Lejeune.

Upon his return to Upstate New York in the late 1970’s, Jim litigated cases as a defense counsel, plaintiff’s counsel, and prosecutor for over 35 years.

That practical experience led Jim to the conclusion that, in many cases, there was a more cost‑effective, speedier and, perhaps, fairer resolution method for claims.

Jim began mediating and arbitrating cases in 1996.  In 1999, he undertook the rigorous training to become a Certified Grievance Mediator for  New York State.

Since 1996, he has been requested by insurance company representatives, defense attorneys, and plaintiff’s attorneys to both arbitrate and mediate hundreds of cases.

Experience

In 2001, he formed his own arbitration and mediation company, Advocate’s Forum, Inc. That platform served as a means by which people could bring their cases, through Jim’s efforts, to a successful resolution; a resolution that they have control over and active participation in.

In 2015, Jim completed his LLM in Advocacy, with Distinction, at Stetson University College of Law. His thesis work centered on mediation and arbitrations Skills. In 2018 Jim moved to South Carolina to be closer to family and opened Jim Reid Mediation. His goal is to bring the same strong ethical arbitration skills to North and South Carolina he displayed in New York, where he continues his active mediation practice.
